Lust and Honor

Lust and Honor - Harriet Schultz It's tough to rate a short story that's only about 8 pages... you barely get a feel for the characters before the short story is over. But this is a prequel to the "Love in the Highlands" book, and so I felt it appropriate to read before starting that book. The story is about the wedding of Alex(andra) and Will(iam) Cameron. Will and his best man, Diego, have been friends since grammar school; both are sons of very wealthy families - Will from a wealthy Scottish family that's been settled in the Boston area for many years, and Diego from a wealthy Venezuelan family with holdings all over the world. Diego has had a "thing" for Alex since she and Will met, but Alex obviously chose Will, so as his best friend, Diego played it cool. But watching Alex come down the aisle gets Diego wondering how it will be now that his best friend is marrying the girl of *his* (Diego's) dreams. Which is why this story is entitled, "Lust and Honor" - Diego decides to take advantage of the offers from a forward bridesmaid to quench his lust; the honor is his leaving Alex alone, without even hinting of his secret love for her.Other than some basic info about Will, Alex, Diego, and Will's stick-in-the-rear parents, there's not much here. You get the idea that Diego goes off to Venezuela to join his father's business. Which is true, based on starting to read the actual book that follows. But the funny thing is that somehow, somewhere, Will & Diego had a fight and aren't speaking to one another at the beginning of that book. Hmmmm...
